biocompatibility) and for a wide range of successful applications,
from replacing tissues from middle-ear to dental defecs. Bioglass(R)
is based on the well studied and published original "grand father"
composition 45S5 . A keynote lecture by Dr. Larry Hench
provided a 40-year retrospective of the Bioglass(R) evolution with
an important shift from tissue replacement to emphasis on
stimulating tissue re-generation (osteogenesis) using bioactive
glasses.

While there are a variation of the original "grand father" 45S5
composition, majority of the FDA approved or cleared products use
the original 45S5 composition which contains 45% silicon oxide and
6% phosphorus oxide by weight, respectively. Other FDA approved
